The African Organisation for Standardisation is an intergovernmental agency that standardizes, harmonizes and implements policies to increase trade within Africa and throughout the world. It promotes trade and industry among African nations while boosting the continent’s competitiveness in the global marketplace and raising the welfare of African consumers. The organisation was founded in 1977 by the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
