Dear colleagues and partners,

As we come to the end of an eventful 2022, we would like to thank all WorldFish staff, partners and funders who worked hand-in-hand in ensuring that aquatic foods brought positive impacts on people, markets and economies that depend on them.

To view our previous year's results, make sure you get a copy of our recently launched 2021 WorldFish Annual Report: Aquatic Foods for Healthy People and Planet available online and for download.

With your unwavering support, aquatic foods made waves across the globe this year. For a brief overview of our handpicked highlights of 2022, explore the interactive timeline below:

A Timeline of 2022 Hightlights

The new organizational leadership at the beginning of the year infused fresh energy into WorldFish's mission to end hunger and advance sustainable development by 2030 by transforming food, land and water systems with aquatic foods for healthier people and planet.

In international forums such as this year's
UN Ocean Conference and UNFSS COP 27, we continued to push the case for putting aquatic foods high on the food system and climate agenda by showcasing our scientific evidence and existing innovations. We have made significant inroads whereby food systems, including aquatic food systems, have been at the heart of the climate debate – both as a problem and a solution – at the climate conference at Sharm el-Sheikh.

There were numerous memorable organizational milestones in 2022, such as WorldFish being awarded the first-ever
Seeding the Future Global Food System Challenge grand prize and winning the bid to host the 2024 International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade (IIFET) conference in Penang, Malaysia.

Our outstanding scientists also received individual accolades, such as Acting Director of Sustainable Aquatic Food Systems Edward Hugh Allison being named among Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers for the third year in a row, Acting Director of Aquatic Foods Biosciences John Alexander Hay Benzie having a crown-of-thorns seastar named after him and Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted being conferred an honorary doctorate.

This year will also be remembered as the year FishBase
the world's largest and most extensively accessed online database of fish species developed at WorldFish – returned 'home' when the FishBase-SeaLifeBase Symposium was held at WorldFish HQ.

The year came to a close with the inauguration of WorldFish's new
Aquaculture Research Center which doubles our capacity and sets us up nicely for an exciting 2023 to deliver impactful research for improving the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in Asia, Africa and the Pacific.

From all of us at WorldFish, we wish you:

An ocean of health and happiness in the new year!
