A virtual event to better understand the root causes of, and explore solutions to, the challenges and impacts that women face in the agri-food system, specifically through the lens of the current crises of climate change, COVID-19 and conflict.
Date: Thursday, 24 March 2022
Time: 21:00-22:00 (UTC+8)
The shocks and disruption to our food systems and supply chains from conflict, climate change and epidemiological disasters, such as the COVID19 pandemic, are rippling throughout the world. These shocks are occurring in the midst of an accelerating climate crisis that is impacting every country on every continent without exception, and our international and local food production systems.
The World Food Prize Foundation was pleased to present the first Digital Dialogue of 2022, featuring previous World Food Prize Laureates Rattan Lal and Maria Andrade, and the 2013 Borlaug Field Award Recipient, Charity Mutegi. Moderated by Secretary General of LadyAgri Impact Investment Hub, Hilary Barry, they discussed how global supply chains are intrinsically interlinked and the impact of individual events quickly cascade around the world at high speed with rising food and energy prices.
Together they explored how war, flood, famine, or drought, women are disproportionately impacted and food insecurity increases. These short-term and long-term consequences must be mitigated with viable solutions to empower women’s production capacity and purchasing power to ensure food security for all.
