Healthy marine ecosystems are crucial for the food security and livelihoods of millions of people in Asia and the Pacific. Civil society organizations, including non-government organizations, play important roles in protecting the ocean. In 2019, ADB launched the Action Plan for Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies, which aims to expand support for ocean health and marine economy projects. With this, ADB has been collaborating with WorldFish and WWF to raise awareness on strategic approaches to promote blue and aquatic foods and nature-based solutions in the coastal zones.
During this virtual session at the 55th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors led by WWF and WorldFish, the invited speakers presented how aquatic foods, healthy diets, and nature-based solutions promote a sustainable blue economy and resilient communities. The presentations also focused on pathways to support scaling, including partnerships between CSOs and Governments, and CSO collaboration for scaling to deliver solutions for meeting adaptation and mitigation goals, and raised awareness of the work in Pakistan Sindh province and the Government CSO collaboration in the Sundarbans, India.
