In a plenary meeting led by The Dried Fish Matters project, a network of interdisciplinary research teams in six countries came together to present the year's projects and program outputs as well as collaborations to highlight dried fish as a vital nutritional, economic, social, and cultural importance for the most vulnerable peoples of the South and Southeast Asia region.
Together, they discussed past and future key outputs, project funds, partnerships with local partner organizations to mobilize the findings of research that put a lens on the critical importance of small fish. They also explored future plans for the visualization of value chains, such as the use of exhibitions, story mappings and scoping studies, and the related funding opportunities to drive this opportunity.
Along with partners, WorldFish's Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health and the 2021 World Food Prize Winner joined the panel to share her wealth of experience on the diverse and complex economy that produces and distributes dried fish. She also presented the contributions of dried fish to life histories and culture in different countries, such as Sri Lanka and Thailand, and the diversity of aquatic food products that can be derived from the production of dried fish.
