In this seminar organized by the Enhanced Coastal Fisheries in Bangladesh (ECOFISH II) Activity in partnership with USAID, WorldFish, seaweed farmers, traders, consumers, processors, chefs, private sectors came together to learn about ECOFISH II activities on aquatic food production in Cox Bazar, including seaweed and green mussels farming and marketing, for improved diet diversity and income generation of the people in Bangladesh.
The event, which was held in celebration of Bangladesh's Blue Food Festival, aimed to encourage the local fishing community to engage in seaweed farming while providing opportunities for event participants to experience various nutrient-rich seaweeds and green mussels cuisines. Together, they also demonstrated the versatility of seaweeds and green mussels that can be processed into food, cosmetics, feed supplements, and other products development.
WorldFish's aquaculture researchers and ECOFISH members emphasized the importance of harnessing the benefits of the cultivation of seaweeds as a potential economic crop in the blue economy initiative, especially coastal fishing communities.
