Committee on Fisheries (COFI) Sub-Committee on Aquaculture
The tenth session of the COFI Sub-Committee on Aquaculture is currently taking place in Trondheim, Norway (23-27 August 2019).
On the opening day of the event, WorldFish Director-General, Dr. Gareth Johnstone presented on the critical importance of aquatic genetic resources to global food security. WorldFish Sustainable Aquaculture Scientist, Rose Komugisha Basiita WFC Zambia Scientist, Sustainable has also presented the case study on the potential for productivity enhancements through effective genetic improvement and related risks to indigenous diversity.
On its opening day, the event launched the first-ever report on The State of the World's Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (Summary: http://www.fao.org/3/CA5256EN/CA5256EN.pdf). WorldFish was a key contributor to the report, and the next steps will involve the development of a Global Plan of Action (GPA) for Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
