Small-scale fisheries are one of the oldest and still most prevalent ocean uses and food production systems. However, their contributions to society have been difficult to measure and often underappreciated by decision-makers.

In this monthly webinar series 'The Future of Our Oceans' hosted by Duke University, ocean and small-scale fisheries research experts, government advisors, business leaders and development economists came together to shine a spotlight on the recent and ongoing Illuminating Hidden Harvests research led by FAO, WorldFish and Duke University.

In particular, they discussed the governance of small-scale fisheries and the extent to which governments around the world are securing their access in law, including preferring and reserving zones of the sea for these fisheries to be sustainably managed.
