A virtual event to launch the second cycle of the global assessment of the socioeconomic and environmental states of the ocean ecosystem.
Date: Wednesday, 21 April 2021
In this virtual event hosted by the United Nations, research, development and civil society leads came together to launch the Second World Ocean Assessment (WOA II), the newest outcome of the only integrated assessment of the world’s ocean at the global level, covering environmental, economic and social aspects. The launch of the assessment sought perspectives from the high-level panel, covering major outputs from the second cycle of the global report.
WorldFish’s Global Lead for Climate and Sustainability, Essam Yassin Mohammed, was one of the members of the interdisciplinary writing teams. As one of the selected experts from around the world, Mohammed had provided his scientific expertise on environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient aquatic food systems to support decisions and actions for the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
