A discussion event exploring the linkages between human rights and effective climate policy and action to ensure no one is left behind or displaced in today's changing climate.

Date: Tuesday, 1 March 2022

Time: 09:00 - 13:00 (UTC+8)

At COP26, Environment and Water Minister Dato’ Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man gave his speech, welcoming the decision at the Conference, which enabled the implementation of the Paris Agreement. He asserted the importance of having a clear strategy for nations to stay on track to achieve the 1.5 degrees Celsius goal and called on developed countries to fulfill their obligations on additional financing, technology transfer and capacity building under the Paris Agreement.

Against this backdrop, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) organized a roundtable discussion with research institutes, civil society organizations, government agencies, regulatory bodies and private companies in Malaysia and beyond. Together, they discussed the impacts of climate change on the human rights of people, effective governance in social, economic and environmental issues and plans and commitments to manage climate policy within their own sectors.

WorldFish's Fish Feed and Nutrition Scientist, Rodrigue Yossa, joined the consultation session to present WorldFish's takeaways from the recent COP26 and discussed our research and innovation in aquatic food systems, particularly on sustainable aquaculture and feeding systems. Yossa interlinked them with human rights to share how these solutions are targeted at improving equal access to food, nutrition and livelihood security as well as climate resilience for the poor and vulnerable.
