In this exciting event hosted by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the FAO, leaders, researchers, innovators and small-scale actors working in fisheries and aquaculture sectors came together to discuss the multiple benefits of seaweed farming in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea regions to address global challenges, from hunger to climate change.
WorldFish’s Global Lead in Nutrition and Public Health, Shakuntala Thilsted, joined the expert panel, drawing on her expertise as Vice Chair of the Summit’s Action Track 4 on ‘Advancing Equitable Livelihoods,’ to present her insights on seaweed as a sustainable, healthy and nutritious source of aquatic food while serving as a nature-based solution for carbon sequestration, eutrophication mitigation, and support degrading ecosystems.
