On Friday, 16 October 2020, from 15:00-20:30 (IST), our Reseach Lead and Principle Scientist for Sustainable Aquaculture at WorldFish, Mohan Chadag, spoke at the Modern fisheries, aquaculture and seed production session on the topic “Nutrition-sensitive aquatic food systems for One Health”.
The fisheries and aquaculture sector provides livelihood to 25 million fishers at primary level and twice of that along the value chain in India. This is an important sector in India, providing employment to millions of people and contributes to the food security of the country. However, Although the sector is growing, experts believe that it is also facing new challenges from environmental stress and uncertainty.
In spite of this impressive growth, the above mentioned areas need to be addressed through horizontal and vertical expansion through technology infusion as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation, for sustainable development. Following this is a month long brainstorming and panel discussions on the horizontals of each identified vertical to carve a path for future collaboration in the areas of interest.
