The Women and Gender in International Development (WGD) is a virtual discussion series organized by the Center for International Research, Education, and Development (CIRED) and InclusiveVT initiative of Outreach and International Affairs (OIA). The series offers an opportunity for scholars and development practitioners to share their research and knowledge surrounding gender and international development with the Virginia Tech community and beyond.
In this session, the WGD program will invite WorldFish's Research Fellow (Senior Gender Specialist) at WorldFish based in Bangladesh, Afrina Choudhury, to present on gender transformative approaches as a sustainable gender integration approach. During the discussion, Choudhury will share her experiences from working on the design and implementation of pro-poor gender responsive strategies in the field of aquatic food systems for the past nine years.
She will also talk about the developmental and research challenges of taking up such an approach within a technical aquaculture environment and why it’s worth it to uplift the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable communities in Bangladesh, especially the women groups. Finally, she will share how they are expanding gender transformative approach research further into new fields like entrepreneurship.
Stay up to date with the latest information by following WorldFish and the hashtag #aquaticfoods to join the virtual dialogue on Twitter.
We look forward to your active participation.
