Headquartered in Penang, Malaysia and with regional offices across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, WorldFish leads the cross-disciplinary CGIAR Research Program (CRP) on Fish Agri-Food Systems (FISH).

WorldFish is seeking an intern to assist the organization to conduct gender and markets research of aquatic food systems, and their implications on sustainable and resilient aquatic food systems and the opportunities for increased food, nutrition security, gender equity and sustainable livelihoods.

Scope of Work

The scope of work will involve carrying out literature reviews, analyzing qualitative and quantitative datasets collected from the field in Nigeria. Support in writing:

  • The Nigeria women’s empowerment and gender equality strategies for tilapia and catfish value chains based on the literature review in Nigeria.
  • Research outputs (manuscripts for journal publication, working papers/technical research reports and briefs).
  • Other related research work.

During a 7-months period, the research intern will work with WorldFish’s gender scientist, other gender and research team members in Nigeria and across WorldFish to make the above noted contributions.

The successful intern will be responsible to:

  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Assist semi-independently qualitative and quantitative gender research analysis (using NVivo, STATA/SPSS and Visual Basic for Applications in Excel).
  • Contribute to research outputs (manuscripts, working papers, strategies and briefs).

Requirements

This internship opportunity is open for individuals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Sociology, Agricultural Economics/Economics, Statistics, or any social and natural science field with a strong qualitative and quantitative research skills.
  • Demonstrate strong competency in gender analysis skills and using computer software (NVivo and STATA/ SPSS, the Visual Basic for Applications in Excel).
  • Proficient in systematic review methodology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Appreciation for aquaculture/agricultural sector.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, professional approach to working with diverse stakeholders, and ability to work effectively independently and deliver on time.

Location and Duration

The intern will be based in Nairobi, Kenya or work remotely. The successful candidate should be available to commence the internship as soon as possible for a duration of 7 months. This position is open to national and international applicants.
