The third quarter 2019 report covers implementation activities in eight countries namely Burundi, Cote D'Ivoire, Cameroon, DRCongo, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia. Aquaculture compact in collaboration with IFAD under the technological foundations for sustainable Aquaculture project in Worldfish facilitated regional capacity building bringing together fish breeders from 14 African countries (Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of Benin, Rwanda, Tanzania, Togo and Zambia) to strengthen the capacity of fish breeders on genetic selection techniques and dissemination of improved fish strains. Sensitisation and awareness creation to solicit buy-in of beneficiaries and eventually enhance the benefits and to evaluate the economic and social contributions of TAAT activities in Ghana was facilitated. Certification process focusing on adoption of biosecurity principles in aquaculture for hatchery operators, technology Innovation Platforms dedicated to support and promote technology innovation in aquaculture were established. Stakeholders were fish farmers, researchers, fisheries officers, feed producers, hatchery operators and students. Technologies deployed in the targeted countries include: Mass production of Tilapia, fingerlings in hapa, artificial/mass production of catfish, flow-through aquaculture technique, on-farm feed production using local feedstuff. Technology toolkits were deployed to identified farms and cluster groups in preparation for massive demonstration of Mono-sex Tilapia fingerling production.
