Recognizing the high stakes involved in the fisheries sector, the Royal Government of Cambodia has taken specific steps to adopt and implement policies to promote sustainable management and conservation of natural resources that are critical to the livelihoods of millions. Given the importance, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has been providing assistance to develop fisheries sector and to build capacity of the associated institutions as prioritized by the Royal Government of Cambodia. The newly created Inland Fisheries Research and Development Institute (IFReDI) is a step towards building institutional capacity of the Department of Fisheries (DoF) for research and development of the inland water resources that will help policy makers and stakeholders to take policy action for management and conservation of the resources that are under severe threat from increasing population pressure and over exploitation. This training on "Natural Resources Economics and Research Methods" is carefully designed to address IFReDI's immediate needs for skill development that draws participants from across disciplines to make them understand the crucial importance of resource economics and impact analysis in policymaking. The most important strength of the training program is its comprehensiveness in contents and ability to mobilize resources from within and outside of WorldFish.
