The 58th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 58) and is expected to focus on the approval of the Synthesis Report (SYR) of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), which will be the last of the AR6 products. It provides an overview of the state of knowledge on the science of climate change, emphasizing new results since the publication of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) in 2014.
The SYR provides an integrated view of climate change as the final part of AR6, including an overview of the state of knowledge on the science of climate change. It is due for release in time to inform the UNFCCC 2023 Global Stocktake. 2023 is when countries will review progress towards the Paris Agreement goals, including the goal of keeping global warming to well below 2°C while pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.
In addition to AR6, during its sixth assessment cycle, the Panel will have produced a Methodology Report to refine the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories, and three special reports: 1) the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C (SR15) released in October 2018; 2) the Special Report on Climate Change and Land (SRCCL) issued in August 2019; and 3) the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) released in September 2019.
