His Excellency Francis N. Muhoro, the Kenya High Commissioner to Malaysia will be visiting WorldFish Headquarters in Penang, Malaysia on Wednesday, 14 August 2019. The visit is part of the High Commissioner's effort to have a discussion on a number of areas of interest particularly the blue economy that Kenya is playing a leading role in Africa, also to learn more about WorldFish areas of research.
WorldFish is an international, not-for-profit research organization works to reduce hunger, malnutrition and poverty across Africa, Asia and Pacific. With a 45-year track record of leading science, the organization generates scientific evidence and innovations for the inclusive and sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries to improve livelihoods and healthier diets for millions of people -- particularly women, children and young people -- who depend on fish for nourishment, incomes and job opportunities.
WorldFish works across a number of different countries in Africa including Kenya with our sister CGIAR center the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). We recently launched an initiative in Egypt at the Abbassa aquaculture research and training facility to explore opportunities to develop a Fish for Africa Innovation Hub to mobilize regional and global businesses, research institutions and government into an innovative partnership to support research and development for sustainable aquaculture and fish value chains in Africa. The hub aims to foster cutting edge science, technology, policy and market innovations to transform aquaculture and fish value chains in Africa to meet growing consumer demand for affordable, safe and nutritious fish produced sustainably and improve the livelihoods of Africa’s citizens.
