The National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health (NCAAH) is a companion of aquafarmers, sharing their perils and ecstasies in the dynamic world of aquafarming. While moving forward with the motto “Relentless effort for the protection of the health of aquatic animals and their environment,” the Centre uses cutting-edge technologies for sustainable aquaculture, with a unique Aquaculture Health Products Division, Disease Diagnostic Services, Preventive Health Care, and an Aquaculture Extension Cell linking farmers to the technologies.

On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Celebration, the Centre organized this International Workshop on Aquaculture Medicine and Aquatic Animal Health Management in Asia-Pacific: Status, Constraints and the Way Forward.

The workshop addressed the status, challenges, and future course of action in aquaculture medicine and aquatic animal health management across Asia-Pacific. It brought together Researchers, Teachers, Technocrats, Industry Professionals, and Policy Makers to look deep into the aquatic animal health management scenario and to evolve innovative solutions to the most destabilizing component in fish production and diseases.

WorldFish Participation:

  • WorldFish's participation was led by David Verner-Jeffreys, who gave an invited talk on biosecurity and its relevance to small-scale farmers in the global South and provided evaluations during poster presentations, chairing sessions, panel discussions, etc
  • Visited the National Centre For Aquatic Animal Health's excellent facilities, including cutting-edge molecular biology facilities, NGS and Sanger sequencing, single-cell sequencing, proteomics, FACS, and a dedicated bioinformatics training suite
  • Visited a newly constituted field station near Kottayam, originally a Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) Engineering Faculty Field Station. They are establishing a biosecure breeding bank for Indian finfish species
