Country Representative, Egypt

Dr. Ahmed Nasr-Allah, head of WorldFish Egypt, provides scientific and strategic leadership to developing and disseminating climate-smart and resilient aquaculture technologies in Egypt, tailored to the needs of dryland food systems. Ahmed contributed to the development of National Aquatic Foods Strategy of Egypt, primarily geared toward increasing incomes for rural communities. He is extensively experienced in aquaculture management and planning for fresh and marine water fish, sustainable food production systems, and resilient aquaculture systems. Ahmed has also worked with numerous national and international partners to develop, assess and promote Integrated Agri-Aquaculture Systems (IAAS), a ‘zero waste’ water-efficient approach that can produce more food and nutrition, and can use saline, brackish or coastal waters, saving the use of fresh water.

Under Ahmed’s leadership, WorldFish’s Abbassa Research and Training Center became a center of excellence for research and training services in sustainable aquaculture in Egypt and serving the larger Africa region. Through the center, he has been delivering and guiding national and international training courses and field demonstrations for over 25 years, reaching countries such as Eritrea, Ghana, and Kenya.

He has published close to 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers and over 40 conference papers and national guidelines and reviewed scientific journals in the areas of Aquaculture Economics, Value Chains, and Food Production Systems.
