Senior Scientist in Aquatic Animal Feeds and Nutrition

Dr Matthew Owen is an experienced scientist, innovator and research manager, who has leveraged high performance teams and scientific research, to provide innovations for advancing aquaculture of fish and crustaceans. He worked for over a decade with global aquafeed producer,  Skretting, where he held scientific and commercial positions, including Warm Water Species Nutrition department manager.

He holds a PhD focused on the impact of alternative proteins sources on the physiology of trout and has supervised 6 PhD students, as well as several master’s students, and been awarded in excess of 6 million USD in research grants, in areas as diverse as the molecular basis of bone physiology in salmonids and zebrafish, novel techniques for quantifying the behaviour of farmed shrimp in situ, to the development of an in vitro model of gut inflammation in salmonids. He has authored over 20 publications and has directly contributed to innovations that have generated the aquafeed industry in excess of 100 million USD/annum.
