Sunil Siriwardena joined WorldFish in August 2015 as the WorldFish Project Manager in Sierra Leone. Currently working as the WorldFish Programme Coordinator for Nigeria. Sunil is an aquaculture masters and PhD graduate from Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, Scotland, with 40 years’ experience in aquaculture and inland fisheries research and development programmes. Before joining WorldFish, Sunil was the International Team Leader and Chief Technical Advisor for two Finnish Government funded and Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN executed aquaculture and fisheries development projects in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. He has also worked for research organisations such as NARA (National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency in Sri Lanka) and Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling and as a consultant for UNDP, NACA, and Stirling Aquaculture. Sunil has experience working in several countries including Sierra Leone, Malawi, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Oman, Iraq (worked from Jordan) and Latvia.
