Aquaculture now contributes nearly half of the global food fish production and, by the year 2030, estimates are that an additional 27 million tonnes, or over 50 percent from the current production, will be needed to meet the growing demand for food fish. This article summarises the role aquaculture plays in contributing to the global food supplies and highlightes the related economic benefits.
