The project entitled “Improving hatchery biosecurity for a sustainable shrimp industry in Bangladesh” is funded by Biotechnology and biological sciences research council, UK. University of Exeter, UK, WorldFish and Association of Realization for basic needs (ARBAN) are implementing partners of the project. The objectives of the project are (i) assessment of the biological, physicochemical and socioeconomic parameters of 15 shrimp hatcheries to create bespoke biosecurity management strategies; (ii) enhanced understanding amongst shrimp farmers of better management practices for receiving seed from hatcheries and optimised practice for seed introduction to ponds; (iii) collect and disseminate evidence of the benefits of increased biosecurity. The objective of the report is to describe quarterly progress of the project activities during August- October 2020. The project achievements during the quarter include agreement finalized among the partners (University of Exeter, WorldFish and ARBAN), recruitment of research assistants, prepare plan of activities, consent of 13 shrimp hatcheries to participate in project activities, develop baseline questionnaire, prepare contents of the videos on biosecurity, assessment questionnaires for the videos and collection of wild shrimp (Penaeus monodon) broodstock samples to assess the infection of pathogens.
