We are pleased to announce the release of the WorldFish 2014-2015 Annual Report. WorldFish is committed to ensuring that the research we do makes a real and tangible difference in the lives of people who depend on fish for their food security and livelihoods.
This year’s annual report focuses on a few examples of how we are working with communities, developing innovative approaches and, with our dedicated donors and partners, bringing them to scale..
Today, fish is recognized as a global super food. Fish provide nutrients and micronutrients that are essential to cognitive and physical development. Increasing the supply of fish and securing livelihoods for poor rural communities in the developing world are the goals of WorldFish research.
This year’s report focuses on the following themes:
- Developing aquaculture technologies and supporting sustainable fisheries management to meet the challenge of producing enough fish
- Ensuring that fish is an affordable food for poor and vulnerable consumers to meet the challenge of nutrition security
- Promoting gender equity to enhance agricultural productivity, increase food security and incomes for poor smallholders
- Investing in fish value chain development to meet the challenge of equitably distributing the economic benefits of aquatic agricultural systems
From diversifying diets for improved health in Zambia’s Barotse floodplain to training on improved aquaculture technologies for gher farmers in Bangladesh, to providing resource-poor households with a source of food and nutrition security, to supporting coastal communities in Solomon Islands for better fisheries management, the stories in this report demonstrate WorldFish’s commitment to improving livelihoods and contributing to a food secure future.
Through our research and project activities, we aim to touch the lives of more than 27 million poor and vulnerable people by 2024. With stories of change and evidence of transformation from rural communities in Bangladesh, Solomon Islands, and Zambia, the report illustrates how that journey is in progress.
