Genetics is a branch of Biology that deals with the science of heredity, genes, and DNA - the building block of life. Since Gregor Mendel first motioned the theory of heredity in 1865 to the present time, this branch of biology never ceases to progress, advancing our quality of life. Therefore, knowledge and understanding of Genetics are pertinent to improve our everyday life be it in the form of the food that we eat and the healthcare quality that we receive. To celebrate Genetics breakthroughs and their impact on our everyday life, the Genetics Society of Malaysia is proud to organize the 15th Genetics Congress Series.
This 2-day event will address the latest issues and breakthroughs in Genetics worldwide. More than 20 local and international keynote and invited speakers are expected to deliver their outstanding research achievements. The Congress intends to provide a platform and opportunities for participants to interact, discuss, and formulate novel ideas in Genetics. Therefore, we would like to call upon all geneticists, breeders, scientists, researchers, academicians, biotechnologists, industrialists, and students to participate in our congress.
On Wednesday, 8 March 2022, from 09:00-09:30 (GMT+8), WorldFish's Acting Director in Aquatic Foods Biosciences, John Benzie, will deliver a keynote presentation on 'Genetics in Aquaculture: Need for novel and established methods to address old challenges' under the 'Food & Agriculture' conference track. The increasing demand for aquatic food systems is rising because of the increasing human population size and an increasing realization of the nutritional value of aquatic foods among consumers in many parts of the world. These complex challenges, but tremendous multidisciplinary opportunities, will be illustrated by WorldFish's innovative work focused on developing genetically improved tilapia and carp products for Africa and Asia.
