The world is currently faced with a variety of issues pertaining to nutrition, including food shortages, malnutrition, population growth, diversification of dietary habits, threats to food safety, and the aging of society. Japan has tackled all of these issues over a relatively short period of time, devising various means to resolve them, thanks to the ingenuity and flexibility of the people of Japan. Nutrition has the power to provide health and happiness to people living today, as well as to future generations, as we head toward the 22nd century.
The 22nd International Congress of Nutrition (ICN) is a meeting of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) that takes place every four years. This year, the theme of the congress is "The Power of Nutrition: For the Smiles of 10 Billion People." The congress aims to bring the world together to engage in valuable discussions on nutritional issues.
On Wednesday, 7 December 2022, WorldFish's Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health and the 2021 World Food Prize, Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted, will co-chair a session with partners on 'Nourishing the future: The role of aquatic foods and products for improved food and nutrition security in developing countries.' Thilsted will share research and innovative pathways in nutrition-sensitive aquatic food systems in realizing food systems transformation towards achieving food and nutrition security for human wellbeing.
