An event to officially launch the research innovations developed to enhance the aquaculture sector through research and development by WorldFish in partnership with The Natural Resources development College (NRDC) and other partners and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).

During the event, we will explore some of the aquaculture innovations, including the development of upgraded long and short term fisheries and Aquaculture curriculum, the Aquaculture online training platform, the Aquaculture skills training center, which includes an intensive internship program for youths and program marketing strategy program at the NRDC.

The named intervention aims towards improving the styles of delivering aquaculture technical vocational and entrepreneurship training so as to develop skills that are relevant to the private sector. The innovations also aim to address the high rate of youth unemployment and the high disparities between men and women in the labour force, especially the lack of women formally working in the fisheries sector who have received fisheries skills training. 

WorldFish and other partners also collaborated with NRDC on two key research activities funded by the USAID - Fish innovation Lab and the ZAEDP project. The Fish innovation lab intervention aimed at testing the performance of feed made with a single cell protein in place of fish meal, while the ZAEDP-intervention is establishing the performance of the two most commonly farmed tilapia species in Zambia, 

The 3 spotted bream and the Nile tilapia fed on commercial feeds. The results will inform further aquaculture investments utilising these 2 species. These two intervention were and are still being conducted in the NRDC fisheries wet lab. The interventions have also purchased a number of equipment which will be used to benefit the institution and future researchers.
