WorldFish seeks an independent consultant to support database development and conduct in-country training of WorldFish and Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), Solomon Islands, staff. This consultancy will enable MFMR to establish a national database of Community Based Fisheries Management (CBFM) sites and activities, by providing technical inputs in database management, online tools and other assistance as needed.

Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Merge and clean 3 x databases relevant to CBFM into one database for national use, providing recommendations on database development and liaising closely with MFMR and WorldFish.
  • Prepare training materials and conduct a half-day training for WorldFish and MFMR staff in use of Kobo Toolbox.
  • Develop draft national CBFM database using Kobo Toolbox, and transfer existing data to new database.
  • Brief staff on new database, including how to add or remove fields, compile data reports and other functions as required.
  • Make adjustments to draft database, as per stakeholder feedback, and assist with any other duties required prior to database launch.

 

Requirements

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Obtained a Degree or qualification related to IT, statistical analysis, data management or similar fields.
  • Have at least five years experience in developing databases for research and development projects, including use of various different online data tools and adapting tools fit for purpose.
  • Have a good understanding of user needs and capacity in IT software and tools in the Solomon Islands context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Terms of Appointment

This position is an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and experience with an international research and development organization. The consultancy will be carried out remotely and is home-based in Solomon Islands with possibility of meetings at MFMR and WorldFish offices. The successful candidate should be available to commence for a maximum of 12 working days in between June 2021 to November 2021. This position is open to national applicants.
