Malcolm William Dickson
Position

Country Director

I'm a fisheries and aquaculture scientist and technical writer with more than 35 years experience working in a wide range of environments. I have carried out long-term assignments in Egypt, Bangladesh, Malawi and Zambia and short-term contracts in 14 countries in Africa, South Asia and Central Asia for both commercial and development aid related clients. I joined WorldFish in 2012 to implement a major SDC funded aquaculture development project in Egypt. Additional projects were added to the country portfolio as we continued to build the Egypt research program. In mid-2017 I moved to Bangladesh as Country Director of the largest WorldFish research program. The first time I worked in Bangladesh was 25 years ago with the ODA/DFID BAFRU program and I've had several short-term consultancies since so it's a great opportunity to renew friendships in a sector that really counts. In February 2018 we secured our largest project, the USAID Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition Activity with me as Chief of Party. Other major projects include the USAID Ecofish project focused on hilsa management and the Suchana project (led by Save the Children) focused on reducing childhood stunting in north-east Bangladesh. We also continue our work with particular strengths in community-based management of fisheries, fish health, climate resilience/adaptation, nutrition-sensitive aquaculture and gender.
