Olfat has long field and research experience in fisheries since 1979. From 1982 to 2013 worked in High Dam Lake Development Authority (HDLDA) as a researcher at Fishery Management Center, in 2000, became the director of FMC and then general director of fisheries and supervisor of three fish hatcheries to produce fry and fingerlings of Nile Tilapia for restocking in Lake Nasser. In 2000, I was fisheries consultant with UNDP to prepare Comprehensive Development Plan for Aswan and Lake Nasser. Olfat was JICA's consultant in project formulation study on New Third Country Training Program (TCTP) for Africa on the "Improved of fish cultivation Techniques" Uganda.  Olfat holds a M.Sc. in “Environmental and seasonal influences on Lake Phytoplankton community structure” from University of Glasgow (UK) and a PhD in “Limnological Studies on Nasser Lake, Egypt” from Tokyo University of Fisheries, Japan. Olfat has previous work experience with WorldFish as Principal Investigator under Challenge Program on Water and Food “Improved Fisheries Productivity and Management in Tropical Reservoirs” CP-PN 34 from 2005 to 2009.

Olfat was Project Manager of Youth Employment in Aswan Governorate Project for 2 years and 4 months (November 2017- March 2019) and prior to that was Fisheries and Aquaculture Component Leader for the same project for 2 years and half (2015-2016 and part of 2017). From March 2019 Olfat is working in IHH study.
