Malnutrition affects millions of people worldwide, causing stunted growth, anemia, and even rising obesity in some regions. Aquatic foods are packed with essential nutrients like proteins, vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. These foods can play a huge role in tackling malnutrition and building healthier diets, especially for women and children during the critical first 1,000 days of life.

WorldFish is working to ensure aquatic foods are part of the solution. By integrating these nutrient-rich foods into diets, we aim to improve public health while supporting sustainable food systems. Our strategy focuses on reaching those who need it most, particularly in vulnerable communities.

Our Focus Areas

Driving Innovation in Nutrition

We advance cutting-edge research to uncover the full potential of aquatic foods in addressing malnutrition. Aligning with global targets such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we develop and scale nutrition-focused solutions that enhance food security and health.

Empowering Communities for Healthier Diets

Through education, training, and hands-on support, we equip communities with the knowledge and tools to integrate aquatic foods into their daily diets. From fish powder for school meals to small fish that boost household nutrition, we ensure long-lasting impact.

Influencing Policy and Food Systems

WorldFish collaborates with governments, NGOs, and global organizations to advocate for the inclusion of aquatic foods in national and international nutrition strategies. By embedding these foods into policies and public programs, we help expand access and adoption.

Scaling Proven Solutions

When we identify successful nutrition interventions—such as fish-based products that combat malnutrition—we work to scale them across regions and food systems, ensuring more families, communities, and countries benefit.

Measuring Our Impact

By 2030, WorldFish aims to achieve the following:

  • 5 million people meeting minimum micronutrient requirements.
  • 1 million people, including women and children in target countries, consuming more aquatic foods and achieving a sufficiently diversified diet to meet their micronutrient needs.
  • Enhance awareness of the health benefits of aquatic foods to promote better nutrition and health outcomes.

WorldFish is committed to transforming food systems through sustainable aquatic solutions that deliver better nutrition and healthier futures for all. Together, we can unlock the full potential of aquatic foods to address malnutrition, improve livelihoods, and build resilient communities.
