WorldFish congratulates new Malaysian Director General of Fisheries

  • Dato’ Adnan bin Hussain is the twelfth director general of the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Malaysia.  
  • As the DoF director general in Malaysia, Dato’ Adnan will also sit on the WorldFish Board of Trustees. 

WorldFish welcomes the appointment of Dato’ Adnan bin Hussain as the new director general of the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Malaysia. He assumes the post as the twelfth director general effective 10 March 2023, replacing Dato’ Haji Mohd Sufian bin Sulaiman who has since retired.  

As the DoF director general in Malaysia, Dato’ Adnan will also sit on the WorldFish Board of Trustees. 

“We are elated at the news of Dato’ Adnan being appointed as the new director of Department of Fisheries in Malaysia and congratulate him on his new appointment,” said Essam Yassin Mohammed, WorldFish director general. 

“We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the department to transform food, land and water systems with aquatic foods for healthier people and planet,” added Mohammed, who is also CGIAR senior director of aquatic food systems. 

Dato' Adnan has extensive experience in the field of fisheries and marine resources having served the DoF in several positions over the past three decades. 

Prior to his appointment as the director general, he was the senior director of Fisheries Biosecurity and Conservation and Protection divisions.
