Aquatic foods are crucial for enhancing food security and nutrition while addressing climate change. Transforming aquatic food systems can increase the supply of nutritious food sustainably while contributing to decent and equitable employment and community resilience. Blue Transformation acknowledges the need to support the 2030 Agenda by transitioning towards more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable aquatic food systems capable of feeding the world’s population amid changing environmental, social, and climate conditions.
This event will showcase Members’ initiatives and promote partnerships to progress in the aquatic food domain:
- Highlight the positive impact of transformed aquatic food systems in addressing and meeting the challenges of feeding and nourishing a growing population, by providing essential proteins and micronutrients, while reducing the environmental footprint of our food production systems.
- Foster engagement with Members and partners in the successful implementation of the Blue Transformation vision aimed to: a) sustainably expand & intensify aquaculture to satisfy global demand for nutritious aquatic food; b) effectively manage all fisheries to deliver healthy stocks & secure livelihoods; and c) upgrade value chains to ensure the social, economic & environmental viability of aquatic food systems, and secure nutritional outcomes.
