Aquatic foods are central to the livelihoods, food, and nutrition security of more than 800 million people in developing countries, particularly those vulnerable to climate change, poverty, conflict, and humanitarian emergencies. They include animals and plants grown in or harvested from water, and their synthetic substitutes. Whether caught in oceans, lakes, and rivers or sustainably farmed, aquatic foods release less carbon than land-based crops and livestock. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats, aquatic foods are healthy for people and the planet.
In celebration of Earth Month, Food + Planet, and Food for Climate League, with funding from Builders Initiative, are gathering nutrition and health professionals, chefs, food service managers, consumer packaged goods professionals, retailers, innovators, and enthusiasts for a deep dive into the world of aquatic foods. The webinar will explore evidence-based resources, dietitian and eater insights, health and wellness messaging, nutritional guidance, inspiring recipes, and narratives to drive demand for sustainable and nutritious aquatic foods, namely bivalves and sea vegetables.
What you’ll learn about aquatic foods:
-How to use: Inspirational strategies for embracing the power of sea vegetables, clams, mussels, and oysters in healthy and sustainable foods, menus, and diets
-How to communicate: Communication best practices and recommendations for how to talk about aquatic foods in enticing ways
-How others perceive: Research insights about how nutrition experts, chefs, Millennial and Gen Z eaters perceive these ingredients
