The Deputy Director General (Fisheries) from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Directors from the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), the Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) and the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT)—all ICAR research institutes—will visit the WorldFish head office to finalize the ICAR-WorldFish research strategy and funding for the next five years.
WorldFish and ICAR signed a one-year collaborative work plan agreement in May 2018. With a budget of USD 130,750 (INR 85,00,000) from April 2018 to March 2019, WorldFish and ICAR scientists are producing a comprehensive five-year (April 2019–March 2024) integrated research strategy as an output for funding consideration by ICAR.
This strategy will be presented to ICAR at the annual ICAR-CGIAR meeting in Delhi in January 2019. If approved, WorldFish will receive funding to carry out research activities with the three ICAR research institutes in the areas of sustainable aquaculture, small-scale fisheries and value chains and nutrition.
