Dr. Sara Bonilla Anariba is a Postdoctoral Fellow at WorldFish, specialising in the human dimensions of natural resources. An environmental sociologist, she brings over 15 years of experience in fisheries and coastal management across Central America.

Her current research examines gender inequities in aquatic food systems and marine governance through a feminist lens, highlighting the often-overlooked roles of women in accessing, managing, and conserving marine resources. By combining qualitative and quantitative methods, she investigates how gendered knowledge shapes ecosystem use and develops practical recommendations for inclusive governance.

Sara holds a PhD in Rural Sociology from Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s in Sustainable International Agriculture from the University of Göttingen.
