Farmers from southwest Bangladesh attended a knowledge fair hosted earlier this month by WorldFish to collaborate on the design of a research project to achieve their community-led objectives.
Over the past 3 months, men and women from across 16 villages have been involved in sharing their personal and community concerns, visions and strengths with WorldFish scientists and researchers from the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems (AAS). The program aims to reduce poverty and improve food security for people whose livelihoods depend on aquatic agricultural systems, such as those found in Bangladesh.
The fair was held on 6–7 December in Khulna to develop areas of interest and research questions for the AAS Program, designed to support the communities’ goals and visions. The Program focuses on community-led approaches to agricultural research and development that target the poorest and most vulnerable rural households. The potential for partnership opportunities within the communities were also explored during the knowledge fair.
Attendees included: Kevin Kamp, Deputy Regional Director and Country Manager, Nasem Ahmed Aleem, Deputy Team Leader and Dr. Golam Faruque, Project Manager from the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems. Union Parisad members from different villages also attended the event.
