During the award ceremony, Lim was described by her colleagues as a highly approachable role model, a respectful and unbiased leader who encourages her team members to voice their opinions and bring ideas to the table.
“This is indeed the kind of leadership and environment we all aspire to cultivate,” said Essam Yassin Mohammed, interim director general at WorldFish.
“I am sure for many of us who know Florine very well, this does not come as a surprise. She has been and continues to be a source of inspiration for many of us. I congratulate Florine on this very well-deserved recognition,” added Mohammed.
Cultivating a conducive work environment
The Inclusive Leader Award is one of three award categories for the Inclusive Workplace Awards that recognizes individuals and teams who have actively demonstrated inclusive behaviors in their everyday work lives and have significantly contributed to the enhancement of Gender, Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) in CGIAR’s workplaces.
“Today’s challenging environment requires everyone in the organization to hone their edge in three critical areas: insights, commitment and execution. As we strive for sustainable and inclusive growth, inclusion is key in ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute to and influence every part and level of a workplace and that everyone feels safe and can bring their full and unique selves to work,” said Lim when receiving the award.
“This award is testimony to the significance that the role inclusive leaders play in the future of CGIAR by advancing gender, diversity and inclusion in the global workplace thus empowering all CGIAR colleagues in making inclusion an everyday reality on the road to One CGIAR,” Lim added.
Promoting inclusivity in the workplace
Early in June, a request for nominations with specified selection criteria was issued throughout CGIAR. Over 150 nominations were received by the time the nomination process ended in early July, demonstrating the importance of CGIAR's collective efforts to build even more inclusive workplaces.
“We received the announcement of Florine’s prestigious award with extreme delight. She has always demonstrated incredible professional competence in her job and therefore, such recognition does not come to us as a surprise,” said Baba Yusuf Abubakar, chair of WorldFish’s Board of Trustees.
“We are indeed very proud of her achievements and believe that her best is yet to be unleashed. Congratulations to her and her team,” added Abubakar.
Lim thanked colleagues who had nominated her for this award and dedicated her win to colleagues and teams across WorldFish and CGIAR who are making workplaces more inclusive and respectful.
