In conjunction with the International Day of the Tropics, Akademi Sains Malaysia and the Mahathir Science Award Foundation (MSAF) hosted a webinar focussing 'The future belongs to the Tropics’ to take stock of progress across the tropics while sharing tropical stories and expertise, and acknowledge the region's diversity and potential.
This is their third webinar as part of the TropSc2024 Pre-conference Webinar series, to celebrate the tropics with the purpose of acknowledging the extraordinary variety of the tropics while shedding more light on the distinctive challenges and opportunities that are faced by tropical areas.
WorldFish's Senior Scientist, Alex Tilley, joined the panel to discuss his research background in fish movement and trophic ecology and the power of big data and artificial intelligence to reveal patterns and anomalies in the contribution of small-scale fisheries to livelihoods and the blue economy in the tropics.
