In this event hosted by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service and Purdue University’s Office of International Programs in Agriculture, multi-disciplinary experts came together to discuss innovative solutions for growth and investment opportunities in agriculture food systems.
The current food system is responsible for producing one-fifth of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, losing approximately one-third of edible food in production, inabilities access to healthy and fresh food sources and are causing one-third of the world's land degradation. Furthermore, an estimate of two billion people worldwide suffers from hidden hunger or micronutrient deficiencies that are often caused by not eating a diverse diet including animal source food like fish and meat.
The FAO Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Aquatic Genetic Resources (ITWG-AqGR), a subsidiary body of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (Commission) held a virtual workshop titled “Development of a Global Information System for Aquatic Genetic Resources”.
