Chief Operating Officer
Syon is the concurrent Chief Operating Officer for three CGIAR centers - WorldFish, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
He is responsible for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the corporate service divisions of the three centers, working closely with the Management Teams and other stakeholders to provide overall direction for departments including, Human Resources & Organizational Development, Finance, Risk, and Legal, Information and Knowledge Systems, Facility and Supply Chain Services, Food and Housing Services, and Safety Security Services. Syon oversees the corporate service teams in the provision of proactive results-oriented services, and brings extensive experience in strategic planning, process optimization, and cross-functional team management.
Previously, Syon has held the positions of Corporate Services Director at IWMI and WorldFish, and Finance Director at IRRI. During his career, he has been part of the Board of Directors of multiple organizations, and has worked in numerous countries, including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, Haiti, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, South Africa, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Uganda, Laos, Uzbekistan, Ghana, Egypt, Philippines, Myanmar, and Somalia.
Syon holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Wales, UK, and a Bachelors of Commerce (Honors) degree from Calcutta University, India. He is also CISA, CMA, CIA, CAMS-Audit, CFE accredited.
